Kid Rock- “All Summer Long”
Initial Impression: Top 60
Prediction: Top 50
Review:
Oh no, hear we go again. Kid Rock is back trying to find success on Country Radio. He does show off his southern rock roots throughout this song, but most of the background music is a twist on “Sweet Home Alabama,” which he mentions on the hook–”singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ all summer long.”
I’m a little put off back the line “smokin’ funny things.” I have always been put off by Kid Rock’s music. While I can’t deny that this song fits into today’s Country Music, I just think it’s too “alternative” for mainstream radio success. I think it will be played a lot in certain regions, but I cannot envision this song appealing to the average listener. The only thing it’s got going for it is timing. A song about summer just before summer is coming out is one of the smarter moves you can make with a song. It shows that at least Kid Rock has a clue about the Country Music Fan. I don’t think any of us truly want to hear a song about summer during the winter.
