Sugarland- “Joey”
Sugarland, fresh off yet another #1, has released their fourth single from Love on the Inside. “Joey” is a “what-if’” song where the singer asks “what I did this instead of that.” The assumption here is Joey died after a decision the singer made. It’s not new ground, but it’s ground that must be treaded lightly, which Sugarland does.
As far as the sound, you can tell this is a Sugarland song from the first note, but in comparison to their recent material, “Joey” doesn’t reach the same level. While the message and the fact that it’s Sugarland will easily propel this song to the Top 10, it’s going to end Sugarland’s streak of consecutive #1’s at a pretty decent 3 in a row.
